View Full Version : Jewelz joins Pulse 87
Phantazma February 22nd, 2008, 07:09 AM R & R reports Jewelz Lopez joins WNYZ.
From R & R...
Jewelz Lopez is the newest addition to WNYZ (Pulse 87)/New York, where she'll be MD/middays starting Monday. New Yorkers are pretty familiar with the lovely Ms. Lopez, who did late-nights on Clear Channel's WKTU for nine years and was also heard nationwide for a while on Sirius Active Rock channel Octane. Feel free to pester her at 718-421-9400.
Metro NY Dance Radio Coal February 22nd, 2008, 07:29 AM I'm still losing my mind over this!!! :D
Without a doubt, Jewelz is EXACTLY the person you need over there! She's young, energetic, hip, knows New York City. She is the PERFECT addition to Pulse 87!
Support her! She needs our "love" :)
Congratulations!
TONY SANTIAGO,
New York Dance Music Coalition
KENNY GUIDO February 22nd, 2008, 07:37 AM This is great news! I hope the other on air personalities that are not KTU anymore soon find thier way over to THE PULSE!
Phantazma February 22nd, 2008, 07:46 AM That's exactly what I'm thinking, they'll be other former KTU persoanlities coming over. IS LiL C still at KTU? He would be great on nights at Pulse.
Metro NY Dance Radio Coal February 22nd, 2008, 08:34 PM Last I've heard, Lil C went to Sacramento (probably followed Jeff Z.)
Though, in my honest opinion, while 'KTU worked out with guys like Broadway Bill Lee, Freddie Colon and Diane Prior, I would actually like to see more NEW and YOUNGER blood in there.
Pulse 87 is a hip, energetic, TRUE New York station. As such it should reflect the young. Jewelz works out because she has all of those characteristics. I'd like to see more along the lines of Nikki At Nite (Party 105), Vinnie Da Ginnie (WSIA). Pulse IS a young oriented station, unlike 'KTU so that's what I believe should happen.
KENNY GUIDO February 23rd, 2008, 07:52 AM I would love to see Speedy head on over. He was one of the guys at ktu that always fought for freestyle.
Metro NY Dance Radio Coal February 23rd, 2008, 09:50 AM Actually...Speedy fits!
Phantazma February 23rd, 2008, 10:39 AM Lil C is probably the only peroanlity that I would want from the old KTU. No offense to anyone but I dont want no old dinosaurs to be on on Pulse. Dinosaur= 50 +
As far as for Speedy, he's on the Luis Jimenez morning show on La Kalle 105.9 making the most money of his life so he aint going anyhwere. Oh yea,and I do hear the show sometimes and they did a parody of "Louder than Love". I can't rememebr the exact name of it,its in Spanish. All I know it has something to do with breasts :D
Frankie Cutlass February 23rd, 2008, 10:42 AM Ok two things here, I listing to the station, they play to much Techno and not enough Freestyle. As far as Speedy coming to Pulse? That’s not happening, He's having too much fun at La Kalle 105.9 with Luis Jimenez and The Morning show.

Phantazma February 23rd, 2008, 11:04 AM Thats what Im saying Frankie about Speedy. im listening to Pulse all morning long and all I heard was one borderline freestyle song "love child". I know freestyle is not the in thing now but regardless of that. Freestyle is the TRUE pulse of NYC. If they neglect to play freestyle, I will just go back to listening to my reggaeton and won't spread the word on the station. A dance station in NYC can not succeed without playing freestyle. They will learn.
luvmesafire February 23rd, 2008, 12:41 PM i do want to give the station a try and i am, mostly online, as i cant get the best reception where i live in jersey. but i have to agree with frankie - i am hearing more techno then i would like to hear.
lets all be patient, they are still new and it takes some time to build a station. they did play a great mix of freestyle on the star & buc wild morning show the other day, star did mention falling in love with freestyle when he use to hang out with the puerto rican ladies in spanish harlem back in the early 90's and was tired of the hip hop scene.
ceesil February 23rd, 2008, 03:29 PM First Of All Let's The The Genere's Right, They Are Not Playing Techno, They Are Playing Dance Remixes Done By The Most Poplar Remixers Out Today, Techno Would Me Pulsing Beats At Around 140+ Bpm's And A Lot Of Synths.i Feel They Are Playing There Fair Share Of Freestyle, Let's Face It How Much Of The Old School Common Hit's Can We Take, At Least They Are Playing Odd Ball Old School Hits, Like Sandee Your The One & Nayobe Good Things Come To Those Who Wait, I Feel The Station Is A Breath Of Fresh Air That We Needed..also On The New School Freestyle Tip, They Played A Brand New George Lamond Song..
Metro NY Dance Radio Coal February 23rd, 2008, 05:42 PM Here's the thing....yes, freestyle IS part of the New York landscape and one can fairly say that the sound MADE Hot 103/97. Yet at the same time, freestyle also BROKE Hot 97 with the oversaturation. That's the one thing I do worry about. I do think freestyle along with all forms of dance music should get some sort of airplay. I just don't want one sound to dominate over others.
And if you think I'm picking on Freestyle, we can take a look at what happened down in South Florida a few years ago with Party 93.1 (WPYM). They did an overkill of trance there...and eventually that's what killed that station.
If you want to see a good example of oversaturation at home right now, take a look at reggaeton. 2 years ago it was all over the place. You couldn't escape a Cadillac Escalade driving by without hearing Wisin y Yandel in The Bronx! :) Now, whether you want to put the blame on overkill, or that stupid FOUR FOUR FOUR EIIIIIIGGGHHHTTTT Optimum commercial, reggaeton, IMHO has reached its peak.
And you know..come to think of it...maybe one or two more guys from 'KTU's past wouldn't be so bad. How about it Efren! ;)
Frankie Cutlass February 25th, 2008, 11:03 AM I Would Love To Hear Some Freestyle Classics As Well As New Quality Ones. Techno Is Cool Or The 140 Bmp Remix lol, But That Sh...t is Driving Me Crazy. Pulse Better Give They Fans What They Want Or Not Will See Another KTU Going Down The Toilet bowl :p
ceesil February 25th, 2008, 11:27 AM yo frankie they played the bagel boys we're gonna get it..lol
Frankie Cutlass February 26th, 2008, 12:37 AM LMAO LMAO
Metro NY Dance Radio Coal February 26th, 2008, 12:36 PM I thought techno "died" in 1993 :)
Though, and I will say this, there is room for ALL dance music genres to thrive equally. And as such as I don't want an overkill regarding freestyle, I also don't want an overkill of trance or electro either. What Pulse is doing is good....you get enough current dance to satisfy us, and the R&B and pop that can attract a new audience and...the key....WON'T make you turn the dial, knowing that more current (and certain classic) dance is on the way!
We just want this station to last a LONG time!
ceesil February 26th, 2008, 05:30 PM i feel the station should play quailty freestyle that was put out from 93 till now, like fascination's still miss you a remake of frankie's song, coro do unto me. the legends of style we are the one's, and so on, this would sound fresh and it has the raw sound we like not that planet rock beat.. just my thought
KENNY GUIDO February 26th, 2008, 05:42 PM FOUR FOUR FOUR EIIIIIIGGGHHHTTTT Optimum commercial
dont front on my girls with those thrustin legs!:D

I can only wish I can hear some early 90's techno. Im not talking about the speed racer and 2 unlimited stuff, I want to hear holy noise "james brown is dead", apotheosis, human resource and the movment.
ceesil February 27th, 2008, 03:16 AM kenny holy noise did james brown is still alive, la style did james brown is dead,,
Metro NY Dance Radio Coal February 27th, 2008, 04:18 AM dont front on my girls with those thrustin legs!:D
They can move their legs, shake their ass, bounce all over. Just put a sock in their mouths, that's all I'm sayin! :D
luvmesafire February 27th, 2008, 09:48 AM it was pretty cool what jewelz just said over the radio - she wanted to thank sal albattello for keeping freestyle alive and spoke on how much she enjoys going to and hosting freestyle events because everyone is there to have fun - no fights break out and nobody is drunk!
KENNY GUIDO March 1st, 2008, 10:22 AM yea, thats whats great about being older and more mature.....no more fighting!
but thats the thing I hated the most about going to long island clubs: all the guidos had to fight each other. I found that the most annoying thing. I loved going to the city clubs because people had a much better attitude.
ceesil March 1st, 2008, 11:46 AM yeah i remember those days too kenny the city people were more into the music if you met a girl that was a bonus....
