Maybe James can help with shedding some light re: requests. I know here, with any artist that I’ve worked with, Clear Channel has a strict policy (or so I was told) that requests don’t mean squat for programming. We could have fanbases call like mad, but to get the PD/MD to listen, it would take a miracle. Then again, the same PD that gave me a line re: this was just arrested not too long ago on allegations of indecency & minors, so eeehhhh…

I agree that requests are important, but from a publicist standpoint, I always advise the fans to be careful to NOT badger the jocks. It could hurt the artists in the long run.

Thoughts, Opinions??

Well, basically, here's how requests work....

All the phone ops have request sheets that they keep track of what songs are requested, as well as the gender and approximate age group of the requestee. The tallys are handed over at the end of the week to programming. This definately factors into figuring out which songs are impacting over others.

As far as Nu Image and the new school freestyle, it's a bit of a different story. For a song to get played as "Freestyle Fresh Beats" on Sunday nights it goes as follows....It goes first through me. I then hand the song over to programming, as I can't just play any new school song, they have to approve first. It usually takes them a little while to get back to me. Then they give me the simple yes or no.

Is it worth it for you guys to request? Absolutely. Trust me, everything goes into consideration. Programming certainly reviews the request sheets, and they remember names and songs. What would help more would be, when you request the song, you reference it specifically- meaning, for example...

"Hi I wanna request a song. Nu-Image "These Things". I've been hearing it in Judy Torres' show on Sunday nights and I want to hear more of it".

This way, even if the phone-op is unfamiliar with the song, knowing its from Judy's show will ring a bell to them.

Remember, the most important thing to remember is that every little bit helps. Even though it seems like a small return, just getting programming people to remember the artist and title can pay off in the long run.

On that note, I'm glad everyone is enjoying the show! I will say that among all of the New School stuff we've played so far since the end of the summer, Nu Image and Lil Suzy "Walls Of Love" have definately made the phones light up!

James - thanks for the clarification. Orlando needs YOUR PD Department. Arrrgggg.. can't tell you how many times CC in Central Florida has driven us nuts. I'm hopeful for some new changes with the ousting of the old regime here. I did hear Cascada on heavy rotation AND they were playing some old school Lisa Lisa the other day. :)

Our Mix show is pretty good on the weekends, but I'd like to see Orlando have a 5:00 show drive time mix show as well.

Nu Image will always have Freestyle in us, but we will also not limit our talent to just one style of music. Thanks for your feedback.

That's very smart. You can't just do one type of music - especially Freestyle as it's not "in" anymore. But you Can keep making new fans with it and you'll make the Freestyle community happy with a little something every so often. If a lot of artists made a little bit of Freestyle, we'd have plenty!
