View Full Version : freestyle alive and kicking!!!
evilbitch March 23rd, 2006, 10:45 PM Do we realize that Freestyle is coming to Madison Square Garden? Thats BIG news and a milestone in our music history! Ok I know we are kind of upset about the fact that the line up is the same but if you had told me 1 year ago that Freestyle was coming to the garden I would have told you to get off that crack pipe! Hopefully ticket sales are good and this show will go on.
We can't stop there. The idea is to keep up the momentum and have big shows like this more often in more cities with greater line ups. Promoters should be reading these boards and listening to what the fans want, who we want added to the line up and where this "tour" should go next.
The Mohegan Sun show as a huge success and it just reiterates my feeling that freestyle is not dead. Radio stations may not have it on regular rotation and major record labels may not sign FS artists but that don't mean shit because we are still here doing our thing. FS will never be the same as we all remember it to be but its still alive an kicking. Many of our old artists are working on new freestyle and some of the new cats are giving us some good stuff.
people like Little "Louie" vega are coming back in the game and ledgendary producers like Carlos Barrios are working on new tracks. Something is happening here. Thats for sure.
So here is my message to the promoters. Sal at fever, Adam Torres, Ralph Mercado... Keep them coming!!!
KENNY GUIDO March 24th, 2006, 05:49 AM the shows are a big step. now we need a sound that people will love al over again!
payac March 24th, 2006, 08:50 AM Kenny... people like George Lamond, Nyasia, Joey Kid are working on new freestyle tracks... That saids a lot.
Francis March 24th, 2006, 09:48 AM Kenny... people like George Lamond, Nyasia, Joey Kid are working on new freestyle tracks... That saids a lot.
They are working on new projects...since years!
No disrespect, but it is a fact. Many new albums are announced but only a few of them are coming from these artist or others!.
I will be the first to say that this show at the Garden is a terrific event. I sincerely envy you guys to have this kind of event.
One day, I hope that I will see the same show in Paris or in London, Berlin, Tokyo, to name a few. I don't think so...
payac March 24th, 2006, 12:48 PM francis... I know for a fact that George has recorded a song that Carlos Barrios produced and it will be out as soon as carlos finishes the other songs on the album... I think it will be a various atists.
Nyasia is working with Nu Image. I don't have the much about Nyasia but thats what I heard from Tony G.
Joey Kid is coming out hopefully by fall 2006 as we are working on his album now.
I am sure there are more people who are actually in the studio these days than have been in a long time. I am sure some of these artist will be doing some freestyle as well as other genre of music. you have to admit that there is certainly more attention being paid to FS these days.
payac March 24th, 2006, 02:13 PM kENNY DO YOU KNOW OF ANYONE ELSE WHO IS WORKING ON NEW MUSIC?
KENNY GUIDO March 24th, 2006, 02:29 PM hmmmmm....
Alisha is working on with DJ SOUL. Johnny O is working on some new material as well.

thats the ticket!!! You know Cynthia will have something new this year as well. she has put out a new song almost every year for the past few years.
I hope judy, tka, coro, sauve, willie valentin, cover girls, betty dee, corina and others give us some new freestyel as well.
The Originator! March 24th, 2006, 07:21 PM thats the ticket!!! You know Cynthia will have something new this year as well. she has put out a new song almost every year for the past few years.
Fuck that. How about an entire album full of FreeStyle?
Rock Steady March 25th, 2006, 01:53 AM Of all the was said I was most interested about LiL lopuie Vega doing a freestykle track again....is that true?
Francis March 25th, 2006, 04:06 AM francis... I know for a fact that George has recorded a song that Carlos Barrios produced and it will be out as soon as carlos finishes the other songs on the album... I think it will be a various atists.

Payac,
I'm aware about all those projects.
But you know, as many other Freestyle buffs I believe what I see in my hands. LOL. Once again, many projects are in the works since years, so I will wait the "true release". I don't like announcement...
As far as concerns G. Lamond. He only released one Freestyle song on the upcoming compilation produced by Carlos Berrios. And he will release on Brandon Boy records a new non Freestyle album. I know that he would love to do a new Freestyle album for his fans, but for the moment he haves other musical priorities.
Francis March 25th, 2006, 04:12 AM thats the ticket!!! You know Cynthia will have something new this year as well. she has put out a new song almost every year for the past few years.
This is a bad example, Cynthia's new album is announced since around 3 years if I'm correct. I know she got a baby girl one year ago or so maybe she pushed her to postpone the album release. Don't know!!! I hope that 2006 will be the good year for a release. But do you still believe that it will be the case??? Personally, I have serious doubts. Even if I really adore Cynthia...
Let's see...
The Originator! March 25th, 2006, 12:24 PM As far as concerns G. Lamond. He only released one Freestyle song on the upcoming compilation produced by Carlos Berrios.
And it probably ain't even FreeStyle. It's probably one of those high energy trance/techno tunes Carlos is known for doing lately. I think this is what he labels as "FreeStyle".
payac March 25th, 2006, 01:25 PM frances.. I don't know where you are getting your info from but cynthia has 2 boys and she didn't just have them last year and even if she did just have a baby... babies don't postpone an entertainer from doing what they do... example lisa lisa just had her fiirst child but she is still performing.
The Originator... people got to eat so what if they are doing other genre of music that they hope will sell and they would be able to live off off. when was the last time sony music signed a freestyle singer? how many freestyle music videos does MTV run today? which freestyle singer has grazed the covers of Bill Board Magazine lately?
FS music is not in the mainstream anymore so many artists who are recording new material has to be smart about what they put out because the bottom line is they have to sell records. Yes we all love FS and wish for the day that we can be on top of the game again but realistically the rest of the music business don't agree. So people like GL, JK, Judy T. must put out FS but also pop, dance,R &B, salsa or what the record companies will approve. you can't hate on them for doing what they have to do to stay in the game. We all have done things in our careers that we wish we could have avoided or done differently.
as long as they put out out "some" freestyle and are still performing FS thats what counts.
don't get me wrong I LOVE FREESTYLE just like you do but selling your cd's at shows or on the internet can't pay the rent. the more attention that FS get with shows like MSG the closer we get to being on top again. I would love to see the day when FS music gets grammy and artists doing all FS music albums.
KENNY GUIDO March 25th, 2006, 05:01 PM I know im going in another direction but since Payac mentioned MTV......why is it that no station, like VH1 or VH1 classics does not play freestyle videos? sure, they play lisa lisa and expose, but im talking about the other videos from TKA, SWEET SENSATION, COVERGIRLS. I seen them once and *POOF*, no more.
why do those station keep re-airing "head bangers ball" and the new wave videos all the time? why the hell dont they re-air "second generation"? (was that name of it? its been so long, i almost forgot!)
evilbitch March 25th, 2006, 06:56 PM I know kenny it sucks that George Lamond, TKA, Joey Kid and others have music vidoes and none are ever played on any of the music networks. thats the way of the world.. let a wack ass kelly osbourn or madonna with her that 70's look make a video and see how many times they run that shit.
evilbitch March 25th, 2006, 07:04 PM I would love to see a sweet sensation or cover girls video... honestly why were there so few FS music vidoes made? why didn't we think it was important to make vidoes way back when FS was on the top of the charts? have you ever liked a song only after you saw the video? I have.....
Francis March 26th, 2006, 07:01 AM frances.. I don't know where you are getting your info from but cynthia has 2 boys and she didn't just have them last year
You're certainly right Payac! I'm definitively less aware and qualified on this kind of information. LOL. I thought it was a girl, my mistake!
And I will be honest with you I don't care about the personal life of Freestyle artists/producers. I only feel concerned by the music.
... babies don't postpone an entertainer from doing what they do... example lisa lisa just had her fiirst child but she is still performing.
I think it depends of the artist. Every artist possesses his own way to run his/her career...this is what I think.
You seem to know very well Cynthia for answering for her! LOL :p
Take care...
Francis March 26th, 2006, 07:02 AM I would love to see a sweet sensation or cover girls video... honestly why were there so few FS music vidoes made? why didn't we think it was important to make vidoes way back when FS was on the top of the charts? have you ever liked a song only after you saw the video? I have.....
There are a bunch of Freestyle videos made...NOW, they are difficult to find as the music. LOL.
FreestylePete March 26th, 2006, 11:58 AM Give me a break as much as I love freestyle its dead as a genre of music. Judy Torres is doing dance music with much success which is great because Freestyle was and always will be dance music. The Legends of freestyle are no longer stars in the world of dance music or popular music today. MSG having a freestyle concert is great and i bought my tickets the first day they went on sale but that doesnt mean freestyle is alive in terms of commercial or cultural sense. But the memories of freestyle will always remain in our hearts.
evilbitch March 26th, 2006, 05:32 PM Frances.. Cynthia is a very friendly person and If you ever had a chance to meet her she would tell you about her two little boys. Cynthia does seem like a very driven person as most know she has managed a career in music and also in banking. so having children has not slowed her down or held her back. As Payac mentioned she has put out a new song almost every year for the past few years and we would love to see a whole album.
Freestyle Pete.I am sorry that you feel that way about freestyle music. No one in there right mind thinks that FS is on top in a commercial sense but it still kicks "under ground". If it was dead why would there be a show at MSG in the first place. The amount of money it would cost to put a show on at MSG would not be worth the promoters time if it were so "DEAD".
No disrespect but you are being very contradictive by saying " freestyle is dead" but "I bought my tickets the first day they went on sale" . As stated by Payac FS is not in the mainstream of music anymore but people are still recording it today. When a genre of music is dead its not likely to find artist still recording it. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME SOMEONE DID DISCO SONG?
I think the main point here is that people are paying more attention to FS these days than in a very long time and the show at MSG just brings it to another level. where it goes or if it goes anywhere from there we will have to wait and see.
payac March 27th, 2006, 11:35 AM Thanjs Eb. You Said It All... Too Bad Disco Is Dead. I Really Loved All Of Fran Jolie And Donna Summer. What About Romeo And Julliet.
KENNY GUIDO March 27th, 2006, 11:56 AM I must add that Cynthia is still looking HOT!!!

payac March 27th, 2006, 12:46 PM kenny where's george's, joey's, k7 pics?
payac March 27th, 2006, 02:54 PM You're certainly right Payac! I'm definitively less aware and qualified on this kind of information. LOL. I thought it was a girl, my mistake!

yes i do know cynthia very well. she is a really cool person. not sure what she is working on right now but i am sure she is working on something. she is always working on something. :)
KENNY GUIDO March 27th, 2006, 04:30 PM kenny where's george's, joey's, k7 pics?
i dunno but I cant stop drooling over Cynthia's!
payac March 27th, 2006, 06:21 PM Well Give Us Girls Something To Drool About Too Please :)
FreestylePete March 27th, 2006, 08:32 PM If Freestyle is still alive how come its biggest stars arent releasing new freestyle songs? Lets See Judy is doing pure dance now, Brenda K starr salsa, La India salsa, K7 last was doing R&B, George Lamond Salsa, Rockell pure dance.
KENNY GUIDO March 28th, 2006, 06:46 AM Pete, you are so right. Freestyle is dead, to an extent. Freestyle is being kept alive by shows like this and new up and coming freestyle artists...but not many venues are allowing the new talent to express thier talent. its a shame that its totally underground.
payac March 28th, 2006, 10:18 AM You Said It Kenny. Its Underground Not Dead. Dead Means Gone. Good Bye. See Ya. Its Over. Will Miss You. Freestyle Is Still Very Much Still Here. When A Freestlye Artist Can Do A Whole Freestyle Album For A Major Label Who Will Back It, Push It, Promote It The Way They Do For Rap, R & B And So On Then You Will See People Doing Entire Albums Of Only Freestyle. Will That Day Ever Come? You Never Know What Cna Happen.
Francis March 28th, 2006, 10:35 AM yes i do know cynthia very well. she is a really cool person. not sure what she is working on right now but i am sure she is working on something. she is always working on something. :)
Send her my regards would you?
I hope she's working on somethin' I'm a big fan since the first song she sung.
And I have the pleasure to meet her a long time ago in NY City during her B-day party at the Freddy Loppez TV show (in 2001 I think). Great and sweet person. I still expect to see her in Paris one day. The Eiffel Tower is waiting for her...LOL.
payac March 28th, 2006, 03:28 PM will do francis. she loves her fans.
